I'm from Saskatchewan. Population: barely a million. If you say 'Saskatchewan' some people will go 'huh?' and others will discount it for being totally inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
But you know what? If you asked Canadians about the things that they value most, the things that make them Canadian, the things which are part of their national identity I guarantee they'll talk about at least one of these things:
- arts boards
- human rights legislation
- medicare
Yes, my tiny home province did all of this in the face of what seemed to be insurmountable odds. We didn't listen to the naysayers, the corporations that closed shop and moved out of the province in protest, or the governments (in Canada and south of the border) that feared what we were doing. Nope. We did it anyway and our country is the better for it.
Change is possible. I don't just believe it with every fibre of my being. I KNOW it.

Now that is some Canadian triva I didn't know but should have...& as a Canadian I am deeply grateful to Saskatchewan for those things...especially the medicare!
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my not so thinly veiled political statements as well as something I'm very thankful for. ;-)
